This commission draws from a family of farmers from the Albury region of New South Wales and dates back to the 1850s. It has as its background a stencil used for marking wool bales, the hook above was used to manhandle the bales. The fire grate is from one of the farmhouses and the wooden wood plane was in use on the farm. We are not certain of the function of the mallet other than it appears to have been put to considerable use. And now enjoys an elevated position in the world well above its original station in life.
